![]() CISTERNA D'ASTI The earliest record of this area goes back to the Roman period and it can be confirmed through the placename and the discovery of a gravestone mentioned by De Canis. The names of some “fundi” also recall the Roman origin of the region: (in) Mignianis or Minianis, Carciglianis, Mommiano and Toveyranis. Significant is the passage of a strata, recorded as placename in the land register of 1575: coming from the area of St.Giulio di Lavege, where Neolithic and Roman ruins were found, it went up the easy valley of Rio Maggiore, where the way before the border with Cisterna is still called “Stra morta”. Once entered into the region of Cisterna, it continued under the “Castrum vetus”and the Castellero going to the basin of Canale through the saddle of Castelvecchio sopra Valpone. Originally some “fundi” had developed along this line and nearby, then becoming the two main settlements at that time, emphasized by the early church of St.Remigio and the old parish church of Cisterna – both with linked cemetery - and by the strong points of the “Castrum vetus” and of the Castellero…(cp.: B. MOLINO, Roero – Repertorio storico, Bra 2005). click per vedere la cartina ingrandita |
